i can't be so biased to only look at my country
i have to be fair and talk about the country that is paying my salary, and I am living in their neighbour's country, accepted as a guest who lawfully stayed longer and became a citizen. Before getting to words about the US, I want to talk about Canada and the laws. Canada is a country where it is legal to drive 120km/h on a 100km/h road. Even the cops do that. It is not like everyone is an outlaw. It is about a fuzzy cloud, which is agreed upon based on a mother rule, which says you are allowed to go so much more when passing someone in the fast lane. It is a derivation of this law that everyone can basically assume the position of speeding and go faster. Even if they aren't in the passing lane.
I haven't been to the US (maybe for a couple of hours for a transfer), but what I see in the US is that the laws are placed at a far distance. For example, you are allowed to carry a gun for self-defence, but the amount of trust law is putting on the sanity of citizens is immense compared to many other places. This means you are allowed to do whatever you want, but you have to experience the consequences. Some consequences are obviously protected and applied through la,w and formal judgment, and the others are relied upon the law of cause and effect. But this doesn't mean actions are totally controlled. The action needs to happen once, and it is allowed to happen, but the consequences need to be considered.
I think this leads to good news and bad news
The good news is citizens aren't looked at as children who are in constant need to be supervised, or better to say limited. This should be one of the laws of human rights. To look at a human as a human on their way through their unique path of life, and allowing them to learn and experiment. The consequence of this decision is that the negative side of freewill also needs to be tolerated. To spare change for those who are so deep in their choices that they need a change. What needs to be considered is that helping those in need is necessary, as we are a collective who are aiming not only to pass time but to grow and be. This gives us the homework to aim for correction in ourselves and others. But this is by itself a big conundrum. How can you help anyone in the first place? If someone's choice is leading them to a place where they harm themselves and society a great amount, we can't just convince them to change their mind. Their choice is many times because they don't feel empowered in their own power and aren't presented with other ways of living. This and examples similar to this make society face the reality of human beings. The way we are made to look at someone is as miserable and don't do much about it, as if they deserve it. The way we can terminate one of our own with a gun is because of the reasons we come up with. The way we can be so distanced from our own expression that it needs such great power to be effective. This was the bad news.
maturity lies in being able to differentiate please sit, sit, and put your ass down, etc. When everything to convey the meaning has to be empowered with metal parts and gunpowder, then the intensity of expression becomes anxiety-provoking. A question is in a world full of clowns, is there another way for a government to convey what it has to say? The answer is again looking at how much we trust in our way of truth and how much we can convey our choices to others.
In the end, this criticism does not mean a limit has to be imposed on the limits of free expression of individuals, but society has to grow to an extent where, at least, families are experienced enough in communicating with their children and resolving the issues that they don't end up taking a military weapon to the school and shoot at other children. Whether we should be allowing these extents of expression is to study whether it is worth the cause or not. What makes children hate each other tothat extent? Is this a reasonable goal for the human species to terminate eachother for the lack of communication? Is it a worthwhile price to pay?
We tend to value life and put an expensive price tag on it. The resources, the years, and the efforts that are put into a person to grow into who they are are very hard to measure and pinpoint. This has a special weight when we are talking about the children of the more advanced countries, as one of the factors of advancement is how much resources and efforts are focused on the development of the next generations.
That is why we prefer watching a professional football game or a wrestling match. That is where people can take sides and express their willingness through the proxy of those who were trained for it, and the freedom of choice and how much people relate to the players determines their side. Or words are used instead of hits of swords and knives. Words do protect and hurt. Words change the course of time.
It is hard to say a word that is supposed to stab someone in the chest. It is hard because it is a word for them to counteract. But words allow us to experiment many times. Experiment until we realize what we seek is not pain in another. It is not their removal but getting even by saying what we like to say.
